Sincere appreciation; come on down!

"Like my son said, I can cross this one off the "bucket list". Just wanted to send you a note of gratitude for all you did to make our trip unforgettable, and I will let everyone know how excellent everything was. Please let Erick and Gilbert (our captains) know as well, and we will see you again."

-- Comment from an Oregon man on his mid May charter in Cabo.

There are some great opportunities for reasonable costs at hotels, resort condo rentals now in Cabo. The weather is great and so is fishing. We'd love to see you there, so come on down!!

A memorable experience

We just got back from a phenomenal trip to Cabo, which included a day on the Vaquero targeting marlin. The trip to Cabo was a surprise to my wife for our 10th anniversary. When I told her I had scheduled a day for fishing she was a tad reluctant- she enjoys fishing now and again but was hesitant to give up a day at the beach after the rough winter we've had back home.
We were greeted at the dock early in the morning by Kathya. She introduced us to our captain Erick. We had an enjoyable ride out to the fishing grounds and then the fun began! Neither of us had fished marlin before and the frantic pace of the boats milling around, throwing live bait out, and then picking up and roaring off to another spot was a blast! I think I might hav been entertained all day long just to watch, even if we had never had a hookup. Of course they did find us fish - 3 marllin released (one more spit the hook after about 5 minutes) and 2 Dorado, as well. The marlin were large (one nearly 200 pounds) and the light gear made us work to get them in. As soon as we got one in we were off to find another one. It didn't take all but five minutes to hook up again! After we landed the 3 we decided to switch gears and target some Dorado on the way back home. After the first strike our deckhand threw out another live bait and had our second fish hooked in about 30 seconds. The icing on the cake was eating some of our catch that night at Erick's mom's restaurant.
I don't think my wife will let me get away with another trip to Cabo without including another day on the Vaquero. It was a memorable experience that we look forward to repeating again!

Fishing was great!

Erick was our skipper and we got 9 marlin and 3 dorado. It was a blast. Here is a picture of my son Kaleb with his dorado, and he caught a marlin as well. I landed 3 marlin and one dorado. We had 2 marlin on at once on several occasions.

The other boat didn't fare qite as well, only 2 marlin and 3 dorado.

Katia was also great from a customer service perspective.

All in all it was a great time and I'm trying to figure out when I can get back down to Cabo.

"Great crew"

I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the crew and the pristine cleanliness of the boat. They were so kind and considerate to (us). The water was rough. The crew gave us towels to cover up with, kept checking to make sure we were okay, asking us if we needed anything, etc. I was really impressed.

The boys did reel in some dorado, we took it to Erick's mom's restaurant, they cooked it up 4 different ways for us and it was "Phenomenal". The kids who normally don't really like anything but McDonald's loved it.

I just wanted to let you know what a great crew you have down there and compliment on the great care they took of us.

Best Fishing in Years!

We just got back from Cabo and are trying not to freeze! Weather was great and the fishing was the best ever. Three of us went out last Friday, Nov. 14. The marlin were swarming all over the Golden Gate Bank! We fished among whales and sea lions. Lots of bait so the marlin were very active.

We quit fishing for marlin at noon and had hooked 10, got 8 to the boat which we released. The biggest were probably 165 - 170 lbs. On the way home we trolled and caught 3 nice dorado which tasted great that night for dinner. Many of the restaurants will fix your catch for you.

We fish with the lightest gear reasonable (hooks and live bait only - no heavy lures - on 30 or 40 lb test line) so it takes a little longer to get the fish to the boat, but is it ever fun!! We could have gotten more if we went to the heavier rods, reels and line, but prefer to cast bait and fight only the fish.

Tourism is slow right now which is a shame as it's the best marlin fishing anyone has seen in years. Around 10 years ago, people started the move toward catch and release rather than killing the fish. About 5 years ago the charter boat owners and captains got serious about it and boy, is it paying off! The marlin don't seem to be too bright as some of them have apparently been caught several times. We retrieved a hook and leader from one! They are big and healthy looking. It is amazing to see them flash their colors when they get excited up near the boat - like flourescent lights!

Check out the hotels and time share rentals now. With business being slow you can find some great deals on rooms. We have heard of several people getting rooms at really nice resorts for $300 - $400 a week. Air fares are good now too, so....................what are you waiting for???

Come to Cabo!!!

Awesome fishing!

This from a couple from Colorado, back after an 8 year gap. They were celebrating their anniversary both times - what a fun way to celebrate! They got 20 tuna, released 2 marlin (their first marlin) and sail fish (above).

"Thanks for all you did to make it a wonderful day. The crew was great! The fishing was awesome, and we even made it home with all the tuna fillets."

Happy Anniversary you two!

dads and kids

The Vaquero went out yesterday with a couple of dads and kids. They got a nice 55 lb dorado. What a great time can be had with your kids - enjoy them while you can and they still want to have fun with their parents!
